    1. [S3150] Marriage of Bernice and Lacey Bowen - Nashville Tennessean - 24 Dec 1940, (Name: The Tennessean; Location: Nashville TN; Date: 24 Dec 1940;), Bride, 15, Goes Home to Mother After 3 Days.
A three day marriage in which a 15-year-old girl, Bernice Bryant, was married to Lacey Bowen, 20, both of District Four, appeared to have hit the rocks today. Bowen was dismissed in general sessions court this afternoon on a charge of obtaining a marriage license under false pretenses. The bridegroom then sued for a writ of habeas corpus to recover his bride from the protecting arms of the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Bryant. Calling the parents, the bride and the husband into his office, Judge John T Cunningham told the girl she would decide the case. Do you want to go home with your husband or with your parents?" he asked. She chose the parents. The mother, 44, mother of nine children, told the court that her daughter was too young to marry and that she wanted her back. Recalling that she was married at 15, she said experience had taught her 15 was too young to begin married life.
