A Mass of the Resurrection will be said Tuesday at 10 am in St Luke's Church, Belmont, for Sarah Louise (O'Reilly) Barrett who died Friday at Mount Auburn Hospital after a massive stroke. She was 87. The author of several novels for teenagers and feature articles for magazines and newspapers, including the Christian Science Monitor and The Boston Globe, Mrs Barrett had recently written on the role of women in the Revolutionary War. She previously had written historical features at the time of the Centennial in 1975 and 1976. Her first book "Silver Blades," a story of ice skating, was published by Dodd Mead Co. in 1950 and went to 15 printings. Her second volvume, "A Leaf of Gold," was published in 1952 and dealt with teaching, a subject that influenced her for a lifetime. She was an officer and board member of the Boston Author's Club and the New England Chapter of the National League of Pen-women. Born in Cambridge, she was graduated from Cambridge Latin School and from Salem Normal School (now Salem State College), Class of 1913. She taught in the Cambridge public schools and at the Michaelangelo Evening School in Boston's North End before she was married in 1923 to the late James N Barrett. She had been a member for more than 25 years of the Handel and Hayden Society, the oldest choral group in America and she also sang in the choir and played the organ in St Luke's.
