      The Rev John Hughes Gold, 91, one of the oldest Methodist ministers in Arkansas, died Sunday at his home in Washington, Hempstead county.
      Funeral services for the Rev Mr Gold were held at 3 o’clock Monday afternoon, from the Methodist church in Washington, with the Rev George Sexton, president of Centenary college at Shreveport, officiating. Interment was in the Presbyterian cemetery at Washington.
      The Rev Mr Gold had occupied Methodist pulpits for 55 years, a member of tho Little Rock conference. He was born near Clarksville Tenn, November 9, 1839 but lived in Arkansas for 50 years.
      He was a Confederate veteran, serving nearly four years as chaplain of a Tennessee regiment in armies led by Generals Hood and Johnson until captured at the battle of Nashville. The Rev Mr Gold is survived by his widow, Mrs Lucy Edmondson Gold, whom ho married in Tennessee and who is now 84; one daughter, Mrs J F Dugger of Washington; and three sons, Julian E Gold of Fayetteville, W E Gold of Colorado, and J O Gold of Hot Springs; and 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
      The son Julian E Gold was for 20 years editor of the Washington Telegraph, removing only in recent years to Fayetteville with his family.
