Bessie Loretta Barton, 82, passed away Friday afternoon, April 6, 2007, in Pinckneyville Health Care Center. Bessie was born Jan. 11, 1925, in Annapolis, Mo., a daughter to Andrew Jackson and Savannah Maybelle (Olive) Mayes. She married David Sidney Barton on Nov. 30, 1945, and he preceded her in death in April 1968.
In her lifetime, she worked as a nurses' aid at Randolph County Care Center and as a radio dispatcher for the Pinckneyville Police Department. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Pinckneyville, and she loved to go fishing and dancing.
Survivors include six children and their spouses, David and Barbara Barton of Collinsville, Gary and Patsy Barton of Murphysboro, Terry and Debbie Barton of Pinckneyville, Darlene Taylor of Bowling Green, Ky., Larry and Debbie Barton of Murphysboro and Carol and Tom Carter of Ava; 19 grandchildren; and numerous greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five brothers and six sisters, Gladys, Clark, Bertha, Mary, Harlan, Minnie, Andrew, Eugene, Julia and Ruby; and one son-in-law, John Taylor.
Graveside services will be in Mueller Hill Cemetery at 11 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2007, with Brother Rob Mathis officiating. Friends may call from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association. David Sidney Barton Rites To Be Wednesday at 2
David Sidney Barton of Pinckneyville, Ill, formerly of Bismarck, was born May 14, 1913, at Greely, Mo, a son of Ernest Barton and the late Irene Mathis Barton, and died April 21 at Missouri Pacific Hospital in St. Louis. He was 54 years, 11 months and 17 days of age. Surviving are: his wife, Bessie Mayes Barton; four sons, David Barton of Colllnsville, Ill, Gary Barton of Pinckneyville, Ill, Terry Barton of Collinssille. Ill, and Larry Barton of the home; two daughters: Darlene Rednour of Chicago, Ill, and Carl Barton of the home; his father, Ernest Barton of Jadwin, Mo; three brothers, Goldman Barton of Collinsville, Ill, Elmo Barton and Leonard Barton, both of Cranite City, Ill; three sisters: Gladys Laswell of New Douglas, Ill, Menta Quick of Collinsville, Ill, and Lavene Gross of Berkley; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by bis mother and three brothers. He served in the Seabees during World War II and is a former member of the VFW Post in Bismarck. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Bismarck, with the Rev. Fred Holbert officiating. Interment will be In the 1OOF Cemetery. The body is in state at Shipman and Sons Chapel, Bismarck.
