      Funeral services will be held Saturday for Capt Joseph W. Bunker, 75, one of the old-time shipmasters, life member of the Boston Marine Society, who for many years sailed in the Crowell and Thurlow fleet of Boston.
      He was born on Cranberry Island of a seafaring family. He went to sea as cookee on a coaster when 9 years old and when 21 was skipper of a coasting schooner. Later he sailed In the lumber fleet of the Murchies, the Eatons and the Todds out of the St Croix River.
      With the coming of the big four and five masters he sailed the Mary E. Morse, Etta M., Barter, Roger Drury and others, his last command being the five master Edward T, Stotesbury of which he was part owner.
      He was an expert navigator and pilot and since his retirement from active service had been adjuster for a marine insurance company. Capt Bunker was a member of St Croix Lodge of Masons, Calais. He leaves his wife, his daughters, Mrs Alonzo Chaffee of Hyannis, Mass, and Mrs Kenneth W. Collins of Calais, and a son, Dr Willard H. Bunker, Calais.
