- [S1575] Obituary of Janice Smith - Legacy - 2014, (Name: Legacy.com;), Janice Lavonne Lund Blankenship Smith Obituary.
Janice Lavonne (Lund) Smith, who resided in Nashville, Tenn., took her last physical breath on Feb. 9, 2014.
Janice was born to Anton and Doris Lund in Plainfield on Aug. 5, 1927. She was preceded in death by her parents, youngest brother, Richard (WA) Lund, brother-in-law, Dale Winkey, and one nephew, Chuck Winkey. In addition, she was preceded in death by several aunts and uncles.
Janice graduated from Price Lab School in Cedar Falls and shortly thereafter boarded a train for nursing school in Tennessee. She ended up spending her life in the Nashville area, but her heart and soul were always in Iowa. Home for Janice was her sisters' farm in the country. Many wonderful memories were made over the years whether it was simply sitting on the front porch late into the evening on a hot muggy night, or getting roped into driving the tractor on the baler.
She is survived by her husband, Edice Smith; two daughters, Karen and Kathy Blankenship; three grandchildren, Kristin Poppe, Evan Stamey (Ashley), and Katy Poppe; her sister Shirley Winkey, of Shell Rock; brother Donald (Darlene) Lund, of Oklahoma City; one aunt Marge Chandler, of Waverly; nieces Becky (Bruce) Winkey and Ellen (David) Doese; and many other cousins, nieces and nephews in Iowa and scattered across the country.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her honor to Memorial Lutheran Church, 1211 Riverside Drive, Nashville, TN 37206 or Room in the Inn, P.O. Box 25309, Nashville, TN 37203.
A gathering of family and friends to share memories of Janice and her life will be held Monday, May 26 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Shell Rock at the fellowship hall from 1 to 4.
