John Adam Scbroeppel, the children's friend and companion, whose familiar figure was known far and near, has disappeared forever from the scenes he loved so well, but he will live in the memory of those who knew him, but to love him, and the newly made grave upon the verdant hilltop in the old Lutheran cemetery will be an object of reverence to the rising generation years to come. Like all other men Adam Schroeppel had his distingushing characteristics, and the love which he bore to his own offspring was extended in a measure to all the little ones whom he came in contact, on his rambles, which formed his chief source of recreation.
After the relentless hand of death robbed him of both helpmates, at whose graves be was wont to spend hours in solitary communion, and whose memory he cherished unto his dying day. It not the common lot of the present generation to reach the ripe old age of four score years, which marked the limit his earthly career, nor does it often happen that a man will dwell continuously in one spot for half a century as did our honored friend and benefactor to these lines are dedicated, and the tears which fell upon his bier proved an eloquent testimonial of the fact that his life had not been lived in vain. Long before the hour set for the funeral Sunday afternoon tbe residence of Martin Schroeppel was thronged with relatives aad friends of the deceased who came to pay last tribute of respect. After a brief service at the house by Rev F Ottman, of the German Lutheran church, the casket with its mass of fragrant floral tributes was borne to the waiting hearse by following pall bearers, all being life-long friends of the departed J J Kluge, M Dberhardt, Gottlieb Gleichmann, John Becker, John M Mailer and C G Blum.
