4 Generations of Family Join In Mass Picnic
SAN JOSE, June 8 Four generations of the Erickson family of Stockton numbering more than 150, including many from the Oakland area, held a mass reunion picnic today, at Alum Rock Park. The senior member, of the family, Carl Erickson, 80, of Stockton was presented a plaque which will be handed down to the eldest surviving member. The youngest descendent of the family who came to the picnic was Timothy Campbell, 1-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Campbell, 2467 Hinkley Ave., Richmond. All who attended are descendants of the late Andrew Peter Erickson, wno migrated from Sweden to Texas in the late 1800s. After he died, his widow, Mrs. Matilda Larson Erickson, moved with their nine sons and daughters to Stockton in 1901. Seven of them who survive, including Carl, 'were honored today. The others are Mrs. Ella Peterson, 78, of 2200 66th Ave., Oakland; Mrs. Hulda Fassett, 73, of Stockton; Mrs. Tillie Duncan, 70, of 7328 Holly St., Oakland; Andy Erickson, 67, Mrs. Mabel Kerner, 64, and Arthur Erickson, 61, all of Stockton. The 173 known members of the family were traced by Mrs. Gunver Campbell of 1736 36th Ave., Oakland. She found some of them as far away as Hong Kong, Hawaii and Chicago, Ill. Arrangements for the picnic were made by a committee headed by Andy Erickson, a retired Stockton ice cream manufacturer.
