- [S1241] Marriage of Patricia and Robert Byington - Lancaster Eagle-Gazette - 13 Sep 1950, (Name: Lancaster Eagle-Gazette; Location: Lancaster OH; Date: 13 Sep 1950;), Byington-Clark Wedding Solemnized In An Impressive Church Ceremony.
On the afternoon of September second in the St Peter's Lutheran Church in Amanda, Miss Patricia Jane Clark of Amanda was united in marriage to Mr Robert C Byington of Cleveland. The Rev. Andrew Schilling of Lancaster read the ceremony before an altar adorned with arrangements of palms and vases of white gladioli, roses, and mums, illuminated by candles entwined. A half hour of nuptial music preceded the service with Mr Frank Hussey of Amanda as organist and Miss Lois Carpenter of Elyria as soloist. Miss Carpenter sang "Always," "At Dawning," and "Because."
Escorted to the altar by her father, the bride wore a floor length gown of white taffeta, fashioned in a strapless style, with a flared bolero jacket made with three-quarter length sleeves. Her fingertip veil of illusion fell from an imported lace cape edged in seed pearls. Her jewelry was an heirloom gold locket set with diamonds, and she carried a large white purple-throated orchid resting on a white Bible, from which fell satin ribbon streamers knotted with gypsophilia.
Miss Nancy Clark was the only attendant for her sister, and she was dressed in a gown of orchid taffeta, styled identically to that of the bride. She wore a sweet-heart bonnet of orchid taffeta and carried an arrangement of yellow rosebuds.
Best man for Mr Byington was his cousin, Mr Darwin Basil of Cleveland, and ushering were Mr Robert DeVolt and Mr Allen Morton, both of Columbus.
For her daughter's wedding, Mrs Clark wore a fall model of brown with forest green, accessories and a corsage of shattered bronze baby mums. The mother of the bridegroom was attired in navy blue, with navy blue accessories and a corsage of white roses and mums.
A reception, originally planned for the church lawn, was held in the church parlors, because of weather conditions. Reception hostesses included Miss May Caltell of Cleveland, Mrs Robert De Volt of Columbus, and Miss Cynthiana Williamson of Amanda. The knife which the couple used to cut the wedding cake was used by the bride's mother for her wedding cake.
Following the reception, the couple left for a month's motor trip through Colorado, Wyoming and points west. After October first they will be at home at Columbus. For her wedding trip, the bride changed to a gray suit, with which she wore dark green accessories and the orchid from her wedding bouquet.
The new Mrs. Byington, daughter of Mr and Mrs Ralph Clark of Amanda, graduated from Amanda High School and will receive her BS and RN degrees from Ohio State this fall. She is affiliated with Theta Upsilon sorority and Torch honorary.
Mr Byington is a graduate qf Collingwood High School in Cleveland, spent two years with the Naval Air Corps in World War II, and will receive his degree in architecture from Ohio State University in the spring. He is affiliated with Alpha Rho Chi fraternity. He is the son of Mr and Mrs R C Byington of Cleveland. Out-of-town guests at the wedding and reception came from Cleveland, Madison, Columbus, Mt Sterling, Elyria and Mansfield.
