- [S2917] Newspapers.com - The Tennessean - 26 Sep 1943 - Page 18, (Name: The Tennessean; Location: Nashville, Tennessee; Date: 26 Sep 1943;), PARKER ESTATE ACCOUNT ASKED.
An accounting in the administration of the estate of the late Ernest Parker, Davidson County Register, by his widow, Mrs. Lela Wooten Parker, as administratrix, is sought by his son, Ernest Parker, Jr., in a bill filed yesterday in Part I of Chancery Court. The bill alleges that the administratrix, who was the second wife of the elder Parker and the stepmother of young Parker, has not filed an inventory of the estate, but has petitioned for allowance to her of a year of support out of the personalty in her hands, which she rated at $700.
-- WAS COUNTY REGISTER
• The elder Parker died last December after a long illness. He was county register at the time of his death, a post he had held for many years, but had been unable to go to his office for some months because of his illness. His wife, who had been appointed deputy register, acted as register for some time before her husband's death, while he was away from his office.
• Young Parker alleges in his bill that his father for a year before his death suffered from an illness that affected his mind and rendered him incapable of transacting business. It is alleged that the father had insurance on his life totaling $7,000, but with some deductions for loans on the policies. It is alleged further that the elder Parker's wife had him make her the beneficiary of the, policies shortly before his death and has collected the insurance.
-- THREATENS INSURANCE SUIT
• In his bill, young Parker declares that if he cannot get the life insurance money from Mrs. Parker, he will make the insurance companies that issued the policies defendants to his sult and seek to collect it from them. He alleges that the insurance firms knew his father was not competent to change beneficiaries.
• The bill alleges that the elder Parker at his death had personal property worth $3,800 and owned real estate worth approximately $14,000, but encumbered for, perhaps, a third of its value. The administratrix recently asked the Probate Court to approve an agreed sale of the real estate for $9,500, but this has not yet been done.
• In his suit, young Parker asked and was granted a temporary injunction restraining the adminitratrix from proceeding with her plan to sell the real estate through Probate Court. As "son and only heir" of the late county register. young Parker asks in his bill that an account be stated between the parties, so as to arrive at the equity and justice of the case."
