Edmund B Reed, 89, died July 25 in a Bar Harbor nursing home.
He was born in Tremont Dec 29, 1880, the son of Nathan and Emma (Mitchel) Reed. He was a member of the West Tremont Methodist Church, the Southwest Harbor Masonic Lodge, and the Knights of Pythias at Bernard. Reed was a former Justice of the peace, a real estate dealer, and assistant superintendent of the William Underwood Co. in Bass Harbor.
Surviving are a grandson, David Reed of Bass Harbor; one daughter-in-law, Mrs Martha Reed of York, PA, three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Benjamin Gott and Ambrose Gott. both of Arlington Heights, Mass, and Mrs Alvin Walls of Bass Harbor: two brothers, E Dalton Reed of Franklin and Capt William Reed of Jacksonville, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Masonic services will be held Monday at 6:45 p.m. in Fernald Funeral Chapel, Mount Desert, and visiting hours will be from 7-9 p.m. Monday, Funeral services will be Tuesday, at 2 pm in the West Tremont Methodist Church with the Rev. Malcolm MacDuffie officiating. Burial will be in Hill Rest Cemetery, West Tremont.

Edmund B. Reed Jr., 62, of 17 Bates Street, a retired funeral director, died Friday at a Bar Harbor hospital after several months of ill health. He was born at Tremont, May 23 1902, the son of Edmund and Katharyn (Murphy) Reed. Mr Reed graduated from Eastern State Normal School at Castine and the New England Institute of Anatomy and Funeral Directing at Boston. He owned and operated the Reed Funeral Home at - Millinocket for 30 years, selling the business In September, 1963 due to ill health.
He was very active in several Millinocket organizations. He was a member of Nolleemic Lodge of Masons, an honorary member of the Kiwanis Club of Katahdin, a member of Anah Temple Shrine of Bangor, a member and deacon of the First Congregational Church of Millinocket. He had served for six years on the board of embalment and funeral directors of the State of Maine and was an honorary member of the Maine Funeral Directors Association.
Survivors are his parents of McKinley; his widow, Mrs Martha (Smith) Reed of Millinocket; one son, David E Reed of the U. S. Air Force of Dow AFB, Bangor, and McKinley; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 pm at the First Congregational Church at Millinocket with the Rev Donald M. Thompson officiating. Friends may call at the Reed Funeral Home, 281 Penobscot Avenue, Saturday from 7 to 9 p. m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p. m. Intement will be in the family lot at the Millinocket Cemetery. Members and officers of Nollesemic Lodge of Masons will conduct a memorial service at the Reed Funeral Home Sunday at 7:30 p.m.

Mrs Kathlyn M Reed 83 died Friday at a Bar Harbor nursing home after a long illness. She was born at Tremont, Nov 13, 1882, daughter of Isaac T and Flora (Butler) Murphy. She was a member of the West Tremont Methodist Church. She was a founder of the Molay Club of Tremont. She was a member of Pythian Sisters of Bernard and Eastern Star Lodge at McKinley.
Surviving are her husband Edmund E Reed, a grandson David E Reed, and three great-grandsons, all of here, two aunts and one uncle.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 230 pm pt the West Tremont Methodist Church, the Rev Gerard Rensen and the Rev Ronald Mosley officiating. Burial will be in Hill Rest Cemetery Tremont. Friends may call at Femald Funeral Chapel Mount Desert Saturday from 3-5 and 7-8 pm
