      Paul N Olafsen, 91, of Torry Road, Tolland, died Thursday (October 5, 2000) at Windham Community Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Alexandra (Newland). Paul was born in Everett, MA on Nov 14, 1908, son of the late Paul K and Magda (Helland) Olafsen. Paul was an Army Veteran of World War II, serving with the 30th Infantry Division in Europe. He moved to Tolland from Houston TX in 1968. He was a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church, Tolland. Mr Olafsen was a member of the Tolland Historical Society and served on the Tolland Library Board. He was a member of the American Legion, Sons of Norway, New England Wild Flower Society, American Rhododendron Society, American Rock Garden Society, The Scottish Rock Garden Club, and the Alpine Garden Society of England. He retired from Hartford Steam Boiler. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Rebecca Olafsen of Monona IA, Astrid Olafsen and Alexander Olafsen-Fillers of Tempe AZ; and a nephew and two nieces, Carlton Gebhardt of Milton MA, Elaine Gebhardt of Jamaica Plains MA, and Johanne Gebhardt of Page AZ. Funeral services will be Monday at Peace Lutheran Church in Tolland with the Rev Joseph Ekeberg officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in East Cemetery, Tolland. Family and friends may call on Sunday at White-Gibson-Small Funeral Home, Rockville. Memorial donations may be made to Peace Lutheran Church or New England Wildflower Society
