RANEY, MARY ELLIS, gracious lady, beloved mother and grandmother, died peacefully at the age of 98 years, 7 months on December 22, 2012. She was born on May 8, 1914 in Campbellsville, KY. In 1933, she married Melvin A Raney in Lafayette, IN. They were married for 42 years, until Melvin's passing in 1975. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret; her granddaughters Suzanne, Jacqueline, and Katherine; seven great grandchildren; and three great, great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her eldest daughter, Roberta, and one grandson. Mary lived a full, active life filled with accomplishments. From her younger years as a homemaker with children, her interests widened in her middle years to refine considerable talents in arts and crafts including traditional spinning and hand weaving techniques, needlepoint, and quilting. She learned hand-thrown pottery and soon had her own pottery studio with a pottery wheel and kilns and made her own glazes. In the fine arts she painted in oils, watercolors, and pastels and became highly skilled at china painting. Her family members treasure many examples of her arts and crafts. Among her other interests was antique collecting. She owned and managed an antique shop in Longwood and became active in square dancing and owned and managed a square dance hall in Longwood. She was one of the founders of the Hoe-downers of Casselberry, a round and square dance club that is still active today. In her elder years, she lived at The Bridge of Orlando where her caregivers, Beverley and Daphne, were always by her side. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts for the wonderful care they provided her. Mary made many friends at The Bridge and was known there for her strength and for her dry wit and great smile. In Mary's passing, her daughter Margaret loses her Mother, her inspiration, her friend. All Mary's family will miss her and will cherish her memory. Mary Ellis Raney will forever be in our hearts. Services will be held on at 11:30am December 28, 2012 at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home. Family will receive friends prior to services from 10 to 11:30am.
