Albert Henry Harlow was a single man livng in Toledo, OH at the time. He enlisted in the Spanish American War and was signed a desk job in Cleveland, OH, because of this assignment he went AWOL -absent without leave. Albert decided to go south (we do not know where). In the south he reinlisted and since he was AWOL he decided to use his bestfriends first name "Harlow" as his last name. During this enlistment he was a guard over those who had yellow fever. Albert was discharged after a mule had kicked him in the chest.
