- [S3586] Lawsuit by Penny and Richard Mask - Tampa Bay Times - 12 May 1982, (Name: Tampa Bay Times; Location: St. Petersburg, Florida; Date: 12 May 1982;), BABY FORMULA CAUSED KIDNEY DISEASE, SUIT SAYS.
A Winter Garden couple have filed suit against the manufacturer of a baby formula, claiming their daughter suffered kidney disease and other problems as a result of the formula. Richard and Penny Mask have filed suit in Orange County Circuit Court against Syntex Laboratories Inc., seeking damages in excess of $5,000, the minimum amount for filing suit in circuit court. Until three years ago, Syntex manufactured Cho-Free and Nec-Mull-Soy, two infant formulas. The formulas were recalled in July 1979 because some lots contained insufficient table salt, said Kathleen Hyland, a company spokeswoman. Courtney Mask, 4, used the formula during the months before it was recalled, and it caused injuries that resulted in the removal of one kidney, the suit states.
