Noel G Sargent, retired secretary of the National Association of Manufacturers, died Tuesday at his home. Mr Sargent was 76.
He had served as secretary from 1933 to 1955, when he retired from the NAM. Prior to 1933, he had served as chief economist with the organization, starting in 1920. Mr Sargent was born in Bellingham WA. He graduated from the University of Washington, Class of 1915 and received his master's degree irom the University of Minnesota in 1916. Mr Sargent was awarded an LLD degree from Whitman College in 1948.
He was a member of the Board of Directors of Westminster Choir College of Princeton University and acting president of the college from 1961-62. He also was a member of the Export Advisory Committee, US Department of Commerce, from 1946-53. He was president of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity from 1938-42. He was decorated with the French Legion of Honor and was the recipient of the Freedom Foundation Award in 1950.
Surviving are his wife, the former Marjorie Way: two daughters, Mrs Lee Donnelly of Allentown PA and Mrs Charles W Reinhart of Edison; a son, John N of Whitehouse Station; a brother, Dr Winford Sargent of Long Beach WA. He also is survived by 17 grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren.
Services will be held at St. George's Episcopal church, Helmetta, with the Rev J Wesley Vana man officiating.
Burial will be in Brainerd Cemetery, Cranbury, under the direction of the AS Cole Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours. Contributions may be made to the memorial fund of Westminster Choir College.
