HICKORY, N.C. - David Monroe Hudson, 69, of Hickory passed away February 3, 2023 from a heart attack.
SFC David Hudson US Army (Ret) loved his God, family, friends, faithful rescue dog Mattie Sue, and his trike motorcycle. David’s favorite times involved cross-country traveling and sightseeing with Connie (especially on his trike motorcycle); repairing and collecting antique radios; woodworking, enjoying good German cuisine and seafood, any gathering with any of his family, and meeting fellow veterans that he could exchange stories with and voice his appreciation for their service and sacrifices. He expressed his love of family and country in many ways.
Born January 26, 1954 to the late Amos Monroe Hudson and Auretta Jean Peeler Hudson David grew up in Lincolnton, graduating in 1972 from West Lincoln High School. David joined the Army that same year, with his first assignment in Leonard Wood, Missouri. Later, he served a tour in Desert Storm. He received the Bronze Star Medal for his heroic achievements. He retired after 20 years, 6 months, and 3 days of service to our country. He was a member of the VFW and DAV, Lincolnton Bureaus and also the VFW, Hickory Bureau.
David leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Connie Crump of Hickory; eight children (including stepchildren and an “adopted” daughter), Amy England (Troy England), Sam Hudson (Joy Hudson), Jacob Hudson (Stefanie Hudson), Joe Hudson (Patricia Lane), Erin Austin, Ben Wiliamson (Tonya Williamson), Stephen Williamson (Tina Fox), Andrea Yarbrough (Dwayne Yarbrough); grandchildren Brianna, Nicolas, Poppy, Carlisle, Logan, Cece, Audrey, Evelyn, Eli, Rihanna, Merrick, Caroline, Brooke, Brandi, and Rune; three sisters, Thelma Isenhower (Tony Isenhower), Cathy Queen (Jerry Queen, deceased), Theresa Hudson; one brother, Larry Hudson (Beatrice Hudson); along with many beloved nieces , nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
What a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, friend. We will forever cherish his memory, and laugh and tell great (true and tall) stories about him around our campfires.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Thursday, February 16, 2023, at The Episcopal Church of Our Savior, Woodside, 1128 Hwy. 182, Lincolnton, in the fellowship hall. The celebration of life ceremony will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, February 16, 2023, also at The Episcopal Church of Our Savior, with Rev. Elizabeth Tester officiating. Military Honors will be presented afterwards. Internment of the ashes will follow at a later date at Arlington cemetery.
Flowers are gratefully declined, donations may be made in his honor to Purple Heart Homes, a local non-profit Veterans-focused organization providing housing solutions and employment opportunities to qualified Veterans. purplehearthomesusa.org
