    • Religion: Pioneer Methodist Preacher. Altogether he recruited over 10,000 members for the church, baptized 8,000 children and 4,000 adults. Brought religion to most all southern states and across to Ohio and Illinois. He did it all by horseback.
    • _ELEC: Cartwright jumped into politics as a Democrat. Twice a member of the Illinois legislature, he ran for the United States Congress in 1846, but was defeated by the Springfield Whig, Abraham Lincoln.
