      Rochelle Thomason Grubb passed away on the afternoon of May 14, 2005. A funeral service will be conducted at First Reformed United Church of Christ in Lexington by the Reverend Mike Hooper. Interment will follow in the Grubb Cemetery.
      Rochelle was born in Lexington, North Carolina, to the late George Arthur Thomason and the late Maggie Hedrick Thomason. She was married to the late Robert Lay Grubb, Jr. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jacqueline Thomason Sink.
      Rochelle was a graduate of Converse College where she was President of the Student Body. She received a Masters Degree in Interior Design from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her career and passion were in interior design, real estate development and civic leadership. Rochelle was Chairman of the Board of Grubb Properties, Inc, a recipient of the North Carolina Family Business Award as recognized by the Governor of North Carolina. She was very involved in all aspects of the company, but particularly in the area of design where the company has won numerous awards for innovative design. She lectured in the field of design for the Urban Land Institute and other organizations.
      Rochelle was a lifelong member of the First Reformed United Church of Christ where she served as both an Elder and a Deacon. She was the recipient of the Athena Award, an award given by the Lexington Chamber of Commerce to Lexington’s outstanding citizens. Rochelle served on numerous civic boards in Lexington and throughout North Carolina. She served as President of the Charity League of Lexington and the Davidson County Art Guild. She founded the Lexington Children’s Museum and the Lexington Enrichment Center, a center devoted to helping children. She was also very instrumental in the creation and work of the Lexington Uptown Redevelopment Commission. She served on the boards of the Triad Economic Council, the UNC Lineberger Cancer Center, Converse College, and the McColl Center for Visual Arts.
      Surviving are son and wife, Robert Gordon Grubb and Sallie Jones Grubb of Raleigh; son, George Thomason Grubb of Seattle WA; son and wife, William Clay Grubb and Deidre Grogan Grubb of Charlotte; sister, Marguerite Thomason Leonard of Lexington; sister-in-law and husband, Lou Grubb Adkins and Frederick T Adkins of Salisbury; grandchildren, Sallie Stuart Grubb, Robert Gordon Grubb, Jr., Elizabeth Darden Grubb of Raleigh, and Henry Davis Grubb and Rosalie Lillian Grubb of Charlotte. Rochelle will always be remembered for her bright smile, her positive attitude and her can-do spirit. The family greatly appreciates the love and support that everyone has given to her during her illness over the last year. The family will receive friends at the church fellowship hall prior to the funeral service. Piedmont Funeral Home of Lexington is in charge of arrangements.

      Robert Lay Grubb Jr 61 of Country Club Drive passed away Monday October 16 1995. A funeral service will be conducted at First Reformed United Church of Christ by the Reverend Mike Hooper. Interment will follow in the Grubb Cemetery.
      Mr Grubb was born January 17, 1934 in Lexington to the late Robert Lay Grubb Sr and the late Lillian Hunt Grubb. He attended Virginia Episcopal School the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and New York University. He received his law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law and his Masters in Taxation from New York University School of Law. He was an attorney real estate entrepreneur and lifelong civic leader. He founded the firms RG Real Estate Inc, Grubb Properties Inc, and Grubb Management Inc. He served as Chairman of all three companies until his death. He was for many years the largest developer in Davidson County where he built and financed homes for hundreds of families. In North Carolina he pioneered the conversion of apartment homes to condominiums for sale to investors. He led his company to become North Carolina's largest seller of condominiums. Later he developed his company into one of North Carolina's premiere owners and managers of luxury apartment communities.
      He was a member of the First Reformed United Church of Christ where he served as President of the Consistory, an Elder, and a Sunday school teacher. He served as Past President of Lexington Jaycees and received the Outstanding Young Layman Award. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was a Past President of the Lexington Kiwanis Club and the Lexington Young Men's Christian Association. He was a Director of Lexington State Bank. He served for many years as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Lexington Memorial Hospital, where he co-chaired the campaign to build the new hospital. He served as Chairman of the Davidson County Democratic Party. Most recently he spearheaded a campaign to fund a research project at the Duke Cancer Center that was later named the Bob Grubb Research Project.
      Surviving are his wife Rochelle Thomason Grubb of the home; son and daughter-in-law Robert Gordon and Sallie Jones Grubb of Raleigh; son George Thomason Grubb of Los Angeles CA; son and daughter-in-law William Clay and Deidre Grogan Grubb of Charlotte; sister and brother-in-law Lou Grubb Adkins and Fredrick T Adkins of Lexington; grandchildren Sallie Stuart Grubb and Robert Gordon Grubb Jr of Raleigh. The family will receive friends at the church following the funeral service.
